We Knife Co. Grants Elementum a MagnaCut Blade

This isn’t breaking news per se, but we always have time for the Elementum. The flagship Civivi folder recently received a new, premium version under the We Knife Co. label, paired for the first time with a steel that you may have heard of before…

What to say about the Elementum? It’s truly a knife for all seasons and has almost become a right of passage at this point for knife enthusiasts. If you stick around long enough in this particular corner of the world you’re sure to have at least one Elementum in your collection at some point – and, no matter how big that collection grows, it may very well stay in it, because We/Civivi really captured lightning with this one: it’s almost the platonic ideal of the accessible, but fully capable modern EDC folder. And, as with so many enduring knife models, the Elementum has enjoyed a fair number of variants over the years.

There’s a black stonewash coloration available too

This latest one is We Knife Co.-branded, and with the label jump comes a commensurate nudge up in materials. The star of the show is obviously the blade steel. We’ve seen the Elementum with blades made from all sorts of steels over the years, but this marks its first rollout in MagnaCut. The first batch of We Knife Co. Elementums, released in 2022, came with CPM 20CV – a fine steel to be sure, but in terms of knife nerd cachet (and general approval), nothing these days can compete with Larrin Thomas’s now five-year-old formula.

The handles on this Elementum are no slouch either. They’re made from titanium, which should surprise exactly nobody – but what makes them stand out (literally) is the three-dimensional topographical pattern milled into both scales. Topo patterns show up with some regularity in the knife world, but to the best of our knowledge this is the first time We Knife Co. in particular has taken a crack at the style – and they did a bang-up job by all appearances. The titanium upgrade extends to the pocket clip, which is 3D-sculpted and can be swapped to either side.

The MagnaCut Elementum is available now.
