Hornady SBR Suppressed Supersonic Ammo

Hornady has just released the SBR Suppressed Supersonic line of ammunition optimized for short, suppressed firearms.

Thanks to the recent changes to NFA enforcement, compact, suppressed firearms are about to become more popular than ever before. And that’s hard to believe, given how much they’ve already exploded in popularity over the past few years. When it comes to selecting ammo for this class of gun, most shooters typically stick with their regular range ammo or buy specialty subsonic ammo if possible for the caliber in question. But that’s not ideal, which is why Hornady just launched its SBR Suppressed Supersonic ammo line.

When quietness isn’t the priority, or you’re shooting something velocity-dependent like 5.56, you’re going to want to be running supersonic ammo. The problem is that most supersonic rifle ammo is designed around traditional-length barrels. When you run it in a significantly shorter rifle, especially one wearing a suppressor, everything gets out of whack. Sure, it will probably shoot just fine, but the system is far from optimized. Excessive pressure and unburnt powder will result in increased fouling, parts wear, and, eventually, reliability issues. At least without religious cleaning.

To remedy this, Hornady had its big-brained scientists hit the lab to do some math and chemistry. The result is four new loads of SBR Suppressed Supersonic ammo that have been optimized for short, suppressed firearms. Available in 5.56 NATO (73gr ELD Match; 2,425 fps), 6mm ARC (108gr ELD Match; 2,620 fps), 300 BLK (178gr ELD Match; 1,725 fps), and .308 Winchester (178gr ELD Match; 2,525 fps), these new loads should optimize velocity, pressure, and bullet performance for suppressed SBRs while introducing less fouling to the system. That means more shooting and less cleaning. What’s not to love?
