McDonald’s is turning up the heat at participating locations nationwide with the return of Spicy Chicken McNuggets and Mighty Hot Sauce for a limited time.

McDonald’s is also reportedly rolling out a limited-time Texas Meal that includes a 10-piece order of Chicken McNuggets (spicy or regular), medium fries and a medium drink. Customers can also choose from one of seven collectible cups featuring Texas-inspired art by artist and muralist Avery Orendorf. This deal is available exclusively in the Lone Star State.

The returning menu items are already stirring up debate on social media, with fans calling for Spicy Chicken McNuggets to become permanent and weighing in on how they stack up against Wendy’s spicy nuggets.

McDonald’s announced Spicy Chicken McNuggets would be returning on Sept. 1.

“Fans ready to bring the heat can sink their teeth into spicy Chicken McNuggets, a hot take on our classic Chicken McNuggets,” the fast-food giant said on its website.

“Breaded in a spicy tempura coating made with a blend of aged cayenne and chili peppers, they deliver the perfect kick in every bite.”

McDonald’s Mighty Hot Sauce is a “flavorful blend of heat,” according to the company, featuring “crushed red pepper, spicy chilis, savory garlic and a hint of sweetness.”

Spicy Chicken McNuggets first appeared nationally in 2020 and have periodically returned for limited runs, most recently in select U.S. markets in 2024. The Mighty Hot Sauce hasn’t been sold since 2021, according to Allrecipes.

Fans seemed eager for the menu item’s return.

Instagram user @Snackolator posted a video of himself trying the spicy offerings with the caption, “I love this menu and I will continue to call for spicy McNuggets to be permanent because they’re so much better than the original!”

“I don’t know why they don’t keep the spicy nuggets permanent!” said someone else.

“They don’t even need sauce, I love ’em,” commented one user.

The post also ignited a debate about whether McDonald’s spicy nuggets were better than Wendy’s, which offers its spicy version as a regular menu item. The Instagram commenters tended to favor McDonald’s, but reviews were more or less mixed.

A post by Instagram user @Markie_devo teasing the Texas Meal drew more than 19,000 likes and more than 300 comments.
