November Buck of the Month is Pretty Tasty If You’re a Cleaver Fan

Buck is serving up its Buck of the Month model in the “Appetizer” phase of November, with a rare first-week BotM drop. What’s on the menu this month? A tasty, unique-to-the-line cleaver built on the Alpha series chassis.

The Alpha series is relatively new to the Buck catalog; the company began building this line out in 2023, when the – wait, weren’t we just saying this in another article recently? Ah, we were: in September, the Buck of the Month was a special variant of the Alpha Scout. But, November’s item is a bit different because, unlike that piece, it is not a spiced up version of an existing blade but an entire new model unto itself. For as long as supplies last, at least, this Alpha Cleaver will join the Scout, Hunter, and Guide, providing the model family with its first ever food prep-oriented design.

The 3V is Bos heat-treated too

So yes, a cleaver – since the dawn of its invention, this is a blade shape intended to do one thing really well: cleave. Now, in recent times we’ve seen interpretations of the cleaver that are intended to be used for a broader range of chores, including everyday carry, but it’s safe to say that this cleaver, measuring nearly 5.5 inches long, is meant primarily for prime cuts. The steel choice should whet the appetite of steel snobs too, as it is 3V. This semi-stainless recipe has long enjoyed a reputation as one of the toughest around, capable of absorbing massive punishment without giving up or chipping out.

It’s in the handle that the Alpha series lineage really comes through – we see the same curved, arc-shaped grip here on the Cleaver as on its siblings, albeit scaled up to compliment the bulkier blade. The scales on the full tang handle are coyote tan and black layered G-10, and the sheath is textured black plastic. Worth noting, this is not a knife meant to be carried on the belt, but in a back or perhaps stowed in a kitchen drawer; thus, there is no clip or loop on this sheath. The 667 Alpha Cleaver is showing a listed weight of 7.3 oz.

It is available now, and limited to 500 pieces.
